Our reason for fundraising - For Jesus

FROM FAITH TO FAITH

-Word from Excecutive Director Rev van den Berg;

The Evangelical Rural Mission (ERM) is a faith based organisation founded in March 1996 by Rev Dewald van den Berg and his wife Linda. ERM’s operational- and head office is situated in Newcastle South Africa. Twenty-three Missionaries are deployed   in 12 countries i.e.  Angola, Botswana, Cameroon, Gabon, Mozambique, Namibia, Republic of Congo, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Zanzibar Island. ERM is a ministry-rich organisation who continually strives to develop new ministries to serve and impact the Kingdom of God in the broadest way possible. 90% of all our ministries takes place in the rural and very remote parts of Africa, fulfilling our calling from;

Isaiah 41:17-20: "The poor and the needy search for water, but there is none; their tongues are parched with thirst. But I the lord will answer them; I, the lord will not forsake them. I will make rivers flow on barren heights, and springs within the valleys. I will turn the desert into pools of water and the parched ground into springs. I will put in the desert the cedar and acacia, the myrtle and the olive. I will set pines in the wilderness, the fir and the cypress together, so that people may see and know, may consider and understand, that the hand of the Lord has done this, that the Lord of Israel has created it.

MISSION AND EVANGELISATION MINISTRY

ERM makes a definite distinction between missionary and
evangelisation work. Missions are categorised as pioneer work amongst unreached people groups and hard-to-reach tribes while evangelisation is categorised as work done among people who are knowledgeable about Christ or has had exposure to the Gospel message. The core value of our Gospel teaching is to make disciples, who will make disciples.

In our Quest to reach the unreached, the mission embarked on a pioneering outreach in 1996 to the Republic of Congo and Gabon to make contact with the Babongo Pygmies in the Niarri rainforest. In 2001 virtually the whole tribe was served with the Gospel of saving grace. Today 9 brick and mortar churches have been built for the Babongo and three Pygmy missionary pastors were trained to serve their people.

The Basarwa bushmen in Central Kalahari Botswana, the Tonga along the Zambezi in Central Mozambique, the Lotzi along the Kwandu river in Western Zambia, the Balabaik in Tanzania, the Mikaya, Bangombe, Bambanzele, Baluma and B'Aka in northern Republic of Congo and Cameroon and the Yao in Malawi are  tribes that are actively being served by ERM missionaries.

FUNDRAISING FOR SPECIAL PROJECTS (FSP)

The Circle of Island

ERM director of FSP, Felix Starker, who has cycled tens of thousands of Kilometres through different countries to support his street children project in Malawi, is at it again. He started FSP 5 years ago. After handing over his successful children’s project to local leaders he trained for many years in for the work of ministry. Felix was then led by the Lord to join the ranks of ERM as fund raiser.

A heart for children, the knowledge of the African child’s need, the vision and unction to see every child come to God, and the impact of the Comic Book Bible (CBB) inspired Felix. Moved by the Holy Spirit he decided to do something special to gladden the hearts of 10,000 children. On the 8th of August 2010, accompanied by two other Christian friends from Europe, Felix is going to cycle around Ireland to promote the CBB and to trust the Lord for enough funds to distribute 10,000 Bibles in Africa. Of these, 6,000 CBB’s will go towards an ERM project in Zanzibar Island on the East coast of Africa. Zanzibar was one of the main slave strongholds and distribution points of slaves to the Arabic slave traders in 1700 and 1800. 99% of the inhabitants in Zanzibar are Muslims and many are stern supporters of the Al Qaida Islamic movement. ERM has been working on the Island since 1999 and with the help of Christian leaders on the Island intend to give every child a CBB.

Training the Christian children to make disciples for Jesus and using the colourful picture Bible, we trust that many of them will be able to reach their little Muslim friends. If you want a tree, you start by planting a seed. Everyone can do this: to plant the seed of Life. Then God will take care of the rest.

Felix will update our readers of his progress, bring testimonies and tell of his breakthroughs. Sponsorships and gifts towards this project are welcome and will be appreciated. We wish him all the best for the trip.
